JANUARY 30, 2024 | 6:00-7:30 PM
On January 30, Medora’s Book Club features a taut, international thrilled called Bond Hunter, written by Kia McInerny, that explores little known facts of Wall Street's role in financing Germany's war on Europe.
The book, set in October 1994, occurs four years after the fall of the Berlin Wall. Stunned by the mysterious death of her grandfather and law partner, new attorney Kenna Rand [protagonist] is approached to take over his efforts to redeem a portfolio of German bearer bonds issued during Hitler's rise to power. The bonds, in default since the Nazi regime, are payable in gold.
Admission is $50 and includes an autographed copy of the book.
Space is limited. Reservations are required.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Kia McInerny, Santa Barbara resident and former attorney, traveled to Basel, Geneva, Frankfurt and New York to properly research the historical subject matter for Bond Hunter and also consulted experts on sovereign debt in the years leading up to WWII. She personally scouted the novel's locales, including the Euler Bar, where Kenna gathers her courage to enter the Bank for International Settlements.
